Study: Understanding the Presence of Workplace Incivility in K-12 Schools: Perceptions and Responses of Teachers
WHAT?
Workplace Incivility in K-12 schools is an insidious and unaddressed part of the school workplace culture. It is harmful behavior in the school workplace such as, but is not limited to, gossiping, undermining, sabotaging, demeaning language, and misrepresenting the facts. This behavior is displayed by many who work in the school workplace: superintendents, assistant superintendents, principals, assistant principals, deans, teachers, custodial staff, clerical staff, secretaries, security officers, and teacher assistants.
WHY?
This study is an opportunity for teachers to tell their experiences and responses to the workplace incivility they have experienced in their schools:
To understand and illuminate the presence of workplace incivility in K-12 school workplaces
To inform all decision makers, policymakers, and stakeholders that the phenomenon of workplace incivility exists in K-12 school workplaces
To provide a forum for teachers in K-12 schools who have experienced workplace incivility to tell their stories about the experience and how they responded to the phenomenon
To encourage the dialogue between all decision makers, policymakers, and stakeholders in K-12 schools to address workplace incivility.
